In memory of a Greek among Romans

Mandelbrot set

Benoit Mandelbrot, one of the most brilliant mathematicians of all time, passed away on October 14. I could go on and on about this amazing man who went against almost all previous notions of mathematics to claim that the world and all the laws that govern it are inherently rough, not smooth. Although his claims were shunned by the science world, his persistence paid off when so much truth was found in his research on fractals, the term he coined, now found in everything from modeling the human heart beat to the stock market. He inspires everyone from scientists to artists (or both of course) around the world.

A modern day genius, unafraid to think a way that he was told was impossible. My mother sent me his obituary from the NY times. I think I shall keep it.

Right down the middle

This is me in my usual element, staring at computer code in my apartment and biting my nails. Ah the life of a graduate student. Inspired by one too many runways lately, I've done the damn thing and gone to a middle part. The middle of my scalp has not seen the light of day since about 9th grade and boy is it happy! Here are some of my current fave inspirations:

Marc Jacobs Fall 2010

Jason Wu Fall 2010

Alberta Ferreti, Roberto Cavalli, and Emilio Pucci. Milan Spring 2011

Chanel Fall 2010

And of course Kate Bosworth. Just because she is perfect.

Hope your weekend was wonderful!

If I could own one thing....

It might be a Bengal kitten. Cross between a domestic feline and an Asian Leopard cat. Come home to meeeeeeeeeeee.
